Enjoy a variety of hearty home-made soups and fresh bread with fellow nature lovers. Then sit back with a cup of coffee or tea and dessert and enjoy listening to our guest speaker , Sean McQuinn, discuss the fascinating life of the Monarch butterfly. The Monarch is famous for its circular migration from Canada and the United States to Mexico, which spans three to four generations of the butterfly. Although considered to be a North American migrant, the Monarch is now found in such widely separated areas of the globe as Australia and the Azores.

Sean will discuss the butterfly's life cycle and migration habits, threats to its over-wintering habitat in Mexico from deforestation and development, conservation methods, and the work that Anne Arundel County students are doing in the Monarch program at Arlington Echo.

Do you have a yummy recipe for home-made soup or a dessert that you would like to share with others? If so, we would welcome your contribution of a pot to the program. Just contact Susan Nugent to let her know. Thanks so much!!

(10:00 a.m. – early afternoon)
Price:  $4 per person
Location: Greenstreet Gardens Nursery (see below)
Meet Emma Boyer from Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary and hear about many of the family-oriented nature programs offered throughout the year. Also, learn how to spot and count birds in your own backyard to participate in this year’s Great Backyard Bird Count (February 17-20, 2012). For fun (and practice!) see how many (plush play) birds you can find and identify in the Great Greenstreet Gardens Bird Count! As a bonus, you'll be able to make bird treats to hang in your own home garden.

Giggle, smile, and laugh out loud watching “Dig Those Dinosaurs” (programs at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.). These madcap puppets will entertain and delight all with their Ice Age antics.  Supplies will be on hand to make-n-take a rod puppet for your own puppet show at home!

Yummy chili, sandwiches, baked goods, and hot chocolate will be available for purchase to benefit the Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary.

No mind the weather. This wonderful winter program will be held indoors in the spacious greenhouse at Greenstreet Gardens, 391 West Bay Front Road (Route 258), Lothian, MD 20711 • 410-867-9500.
